  Our Purpose

John 3:3-6 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. [4] Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? [5] Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jesus said "ye must be born again". Being born again is to be born of the Spirit, (the Holy Spirit). Just as the physical birth gets us into this world, so a Spiritual birth gets us into His (God's) World. There is a spiritual existence apart from God but it is an existence unto death and eternal separation from Him (God). 

Romans 5:12 (KJV) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 

Ephes. 2:1 (KJV) And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Because Jesus Died for us, on our behalf, to pay for our sins, we can be made alive by trusting in HIM. 

John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

In the book of Ephesians we are referred to as "Saints"; A new man; the "Body of Christ"; "The Bride of Christ"; and "Soldiers". We at Avon Baptist Church are these and more. We are the children of God, (1 John 3.1), the Light of the World, the Salt of the Earth. We make these claims not because of who we were but because of "WHOSE" we have become. Because HE says we are, we are. We are not just another "church", but rather a living organism and a part of the larger living organism that is the CHURCH. If so be that you too, are a born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ then you too are all this and more. Trust, Believe, Receive! We at Avon Baptist Church are affiliated with a denomination, The Southern Baptist Convention. It better enables us to express the love and redemption of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on a Global Basis. In the Great Commission, Matthew 28, 18-20, Jesus commands us to carry this gospel unto the whole world. A formidable task for a small church, but in cooperation with many other local bodies of believers we are able to do just that. Through the cooperative effort of Southern Baptist everywhere we are able to be a part of ministering the truth to people groups all over the globe. Our mission is not just to tell others about Jesus but to express his love and kindness to them whereever they are. Through the various agencies and organizations within the Southern Baptist Convention we are able to feed the hungry, help the afflicted, and provide medical help to the sick. This is not just a global effort but a local one too. Our mission begins right here in Avon, Ohio. As a family of believers we are the support and encouragement to one another that Jesus has commanded us to be. We are also the voice of the Gospel to our neighbors near and far.

Now that is some heavy stuff. So why so serious? We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again and SOON. If we are living in the last days, and we are*, then it is urgent for people to come to Christ now and to know how to do that. There are so many beliefs and "religions" out there but there is just one way to a living, lasting (eternal), relationship with God and that is through Jesus Christ. It is vital for you to know this and to make your decision accordingly. 

* The last days are those between Christ's first and second coming.
